Summary

A paper is formal and finished, while the actual conversation about it happens on social media. This work builds a research prototype that puts the two side by side as you read, pairing the paper with the informal insight around it and using LLMs to retrieve and label the discussions that are relevant to it.

A formative study with eight researchers looked at how much this widens a reader’s view of a paper — and where the limit is, before the enrichment turns into just another feed to get lost in and imports the cognitive overload and distraction of social media into the act of reading.
